LONDON — This morning I embarked on a mission to Colindale and a visit to Hannants, a model shop. Unfortunately the item I was after had sold out and would probably be back in stock in a couple of weeks. Fortunately the shop is right next door (almost) to the RAF Museum so on the way back I stopped for a visit.
A couple of large buildings filled with aircraft, old and new, the museum first told the story of flight mostly through aircraft that been used by the RAF. The second building housed an impressive display of bombers, including a Lancaster and a Vulcan.
I retraced my journey on the Northern Line back as far as Camden Town in order to take the other branch line to East Finchley and lunch at the Bald-Faced Stag. While waiting for my order to arrive, the nagging thought that this might be the wrong pub needed to be put to rest so I googled “beadle Enfield Draper” and found a page that described the murder of John Draper in enough detail. The pub in which he was last seen alive was called the Bald-Faced Stag but—it is now called The Stag, and it is in Enfield Chase—quite a distance away. I think I’ll attempt to get there tomorrow when I visit a couple of Enfield churchyards.
