To William Darby, yeoman, and Mary Ann Darby (née Prince), on April 29, 1847 at Highworth, a daughter, Eliza Darby.

The above information was provided to the registrar, J. C. Salmon, on May 26, 1847, by her father, William Darby of Highworth (1).

Eliza’s death certificate gave her mother’s maiden name as Shurmer, so it was a bit of a surprise to find that her mother was formerly a Prince. Either William Darby was not Mary Ann Prince’s first husband, or, and I think it more likely, a mis-hearing of the maiden name of Eliza’s late husband’s mother, namely Sturmer, was given instead.
