George Hancock, d.1915

George Hancock, grocer, died at the hospital, from Holloway Road, Mitchelltown, Wellington, on April 19, 1915, aged 68 years. The cause of death was certified as malignant papilloma of the bladder by Dr D. F. Meyers on April 19, 1915.

He was buried in Karori Cemetery on April 21, 1915. George Hancock was born in Lambeth, London to George Hancock, labourer, and Elizabeth Hancock (née Sturmer), and had resided in New Zealand for about 41 years. He left a widow, Eliza Darby, aged 67 years, whom he married in Wellington when he was aged 26 years. He left no living children.

The above information was provided to the registrar, J. L. Palethorpe, on April 22, 1915, by the undertaker, J. Flyger, of Wellington (1).

George Hancock’s death notice was published in the Evening Post on 20 April 1915 (2).

HANCOCK—On the 19th April, 1915, at the Wellington Hospital, after a long painful illness, George Hancock, beloved husband of Eliza Hancock, late of 104, Holloway road, Mitchelltown. At rest and peace for evermore.
