HIGH HALDEN — It was an early start to the day; I was out the door by 7:30 am. and heading for one of Maidstone’s park and rides. I arrived at the bus stop outside County Hall an hour later which gave me an hour and a half to retrieve some e-mails and update the blog at McDonalds.
I spent the following six and a half hours searching through parish registers on microfilm for some ancestors who just don’t want to be found. I will be returning tomorrow to continue the search. Just as well the weather’s so rotten at the moment.
i can’t believe you spent 6.5 hours looking at microfilm! i find that really hard on the eyes and so tiring. I helped a woman this week who was granny hunting, searching the Evening Post for a marriage notice of her great grandparents. we didn’t find it though so it was a bit unsatisfying. i was quite involved by the end of it and really wanted to find the notice so was disheartened with the dead end. (no pun intended.) however it was a bit frustrating when she said: well, maybe they got married in Christchurch! still when you are relying on the faded memories of elderly relatives for clues…. she just didn’t want to pay the $30 for the marriage cert.
