Committed!

The following is a recent transcription of an item from the West Briton and Cornwall Advertiser for March 2, 1849.

COMMITTAL — JOSEPH HEWITT, [of] the parish of St. Breock, was on Friday last, taken before MR. EDWARD STEPHENS, of Trewornan, charged with an assault on the person of a girl named TABB, of St. Miniver, with intent &c. He was fully committed to take his trial for the capital offence.

The above extract refers to my 3 × great grandfather Josiah Hewitt. Born about 1828, Josiah married in 1852, had two children (of which one survived infancy), and disappeared from the records in the late 1850s.
The typesetter was probably reading from abbreviated notes: the abbreviations for Josiah and Joshua often seem to get mistaken for the more common Joseph.
I await the report of the trial with interest.
